How to Set Up Alarm.com Geo-Services


Prevent security errors and automate your smart home with Alarm.com's Geo-Services. Follow these steps to set it up using the Alarm.com app and web dashboard.

What is Geo-Services?


Geo-Services is a feature that utilizes your phone's location and a customized "geo-fence" around your home to detect when you leave and when you're returning. This information triggers useful home automation rules and alerts, such as reminding you to close the garage door.


Here's how to set it up:

  1. Log in to the Alarm.com app.
  2. Tap the Menu icon in the top left.
  3. Scroll down and select "Geo-Services."
  4. Toggle the switch to enable Geo-Services.
  5. Confirm by tapping "Enable."


If Location Services are not enabled, go to settings and turn them on.

Verify that Location Services are turned on.


To create your Geo-Fence on the web dashboard:


  1. Click "Settings."
  2. Select "Geo-Services."
  3. Click "+ Add a Fence."
  4. In the "Enter Address" field, enter an address.
  5. Give the fence a name in the "Fence Name" field.
  6. Specify the radius or adjust the fence by clicking and dragging.
  7. Review the fence and click "Save."
